Alpha Players
Opened up in 2009 in the last week of Sept.
early Oct. we had already seen an out pouring cry
in our community for a store that could host tournaments
and have better pack prices for the MTG crowd. Robert Duck
and Derek Boss with Help from Many Garage Kids
who loved the game of MTG gave Rob and Derek the
ideas and dream to build a store so we all could have
a great experience and pass it on to everyone who
likes to play. As we built the dream we knew there
were several goals we had to achieve. 1st goal was build
the store. Check we done that. 2nd start hosting events
at a comparable price to other events. Check we done that.
3rd goal was to get judges in our area, This deemed to be the
hardest thing do to loyalty of the people we choose would have
to be willing to take a lot of heat or have the time themselves
to travel and or be impartial to stores where tournaments
and events were held. By having judges in our area GR would
be able to eventually host some bigger events and have our
community given some recognition for their support of a game
we all Like to play. As we had 6 people tested 3 had passed and we were on our way to the 4th
step. and that was the big event. The West MI Brawl that the judges
ran was an event that Robert Duck in 09 discussed with our Grand Opening crowd
but because of some hard feelings amongst players and stores it was decided
that AP not be involved in the hosting of the event.
Reluctantly AP agreed we would help if the judges would need it.
The night prior of that event AP was at the Hotel helping set up tables, making sure
round tables were taken out and 6 and 8 foot tables were placed, then in the wee hours of
the morning as everyone started to show up AP again was needed to help with phone
lines for the vendors and running some security amongst some unwanted guests.
Long story short some subjects who had stolen collections ended up at the
event. Event went on and the event had over 100 persons show up which at the time was a new GR record for a single event numbers in one area. So even as the event went bye AP was very proud to say this was the start of a community coming together. As the days went bye there were several stores getting involved and having judges attend their events. AP was so happy to get calls from local card shops asking for assistance we knew it was a turning point. As Thank Yous go and as we move forward AP has a new goal now and we are almost ready to embark on it. AP is buying a building remodeling it to house 100 to 150 person events, along with snack bar and soda pop, microwaveable items, sandwich's, stuff that guys run out the door for to have while they play. Full service retail store with a lan center, Disc Golf Pro shop, along with Computer repair. With all we have been through with breaking of the eggs sorta speak we maintained our integrity, and commitment to our community and with that we have shown we are truly Alpha Players.....
We welcome all to Alpha Players.
Because in our minds were all #1
